Studies on Wang Yanqing's Guqin Music (Doctor Dissertation of Chen Ching-yi)

Yi Lan Qin Zhai is Dr. Chen Ching-yi studio, teaching the traditional Chinese "qin", "zheng" and calligraphy art.

“A gentleman never leaves his Qin with out a good reason”. This is an old saying that shows the importance of this instrument in history. The Guqin was highly regarded and seen as a way of self-cultivation. Through the instrument the player learned about him self and the values of life.

Yilan Qin Zhai Studio strives to preserve the Chinese heritage through the continuation of the Guqin arts. The Studio has a genuine linage and teaches in the tradition handed down from the ancient masters.

Yilan Qin Zhai Studio teaches traditional songs from traditional calligraphy music sheets. This will give you a good understanding of the instrument, but also taste of Chinese culture and history.

About Mei An Qin school(梅庵琴派)and Yi Lan Qin Zhai Studio

Wang Yang qing(王燕卿) (1867-1921), named Binlu, is the Qin scholar of Zhucheng in Shandong province. He, together with Kang Youwei(康有为), made a trip in the southern areas in 1917. At that time, he was invited to teach in Nanjing Higher Normal School owing to his excellent Qin skills, and became the first Qin scholar who gave lectures in tertiary institution. Wang Yanqing's Qin Inheritance in Nanjing was developed into Mei'an Qin School due to its special style and creative ideas. His “Mei'an tablature”(梅庵琴谱) collected by the Mei'an disciples has over ten versions altogether including English, Chinese, Spanish and so forth, which has never occurred before. The Mei'an successors are all over the world till now.

His student is Xu li sung( 徐立孙) collected and publisfed Wang Yang qin's guqin melodies since then that works has been called Mei An qin pu and it was called Mei An qin school.His follower Wu zong han(吴宗汉) come to Taiwan and his students Wang hai yang(王海燕) and Wang hai yang's student Chen ching yi(Helen)(陈钦怡),estabishes the Yi Lan Qin Zhai Studio for continuing the melodies of Mei An qin school .

In ancient times, The guqin is a unique musical instrument.Along with calligraphy ,the game of Go , and Painting , the qin formed one of the four cultural cornerstones of a learned Chinese. Historically, the guqin has been viewed as a symbol of Chinese high culture and the instrument most expressive of the essence of Chinese music.

Yi Lan Qin Zhai Studio's guqin basic class is learning begin from Mai-An Qin school's qin music , then learn other qin school's qin music.You will learn the skill of playing the guqin in our guqin class(finger techniques not guqin theory),Sometime you will learn about the Guqin theory,like Origins, legends and history of the instrument ,Construction, form and aesthetics etc. You will learn guqin with great interest ;while the finger teacniques learning from play qin music.
